In January 2015, the Indian government significantly expanded its solar plans, targeting US$100 billion of investment and 100 GW of solar capacity by 2022. Since then the country’s solar capacity jumped from about 2 GW to over 6 GW as on end of FY 2016.

To facilitate such a gigantic capacity addition target, GoI has recently raised the Renewable Power Purchase Obligation (RPO) for all obligated entities to achieve 8% by year 2022 and exempted inter-state transmission charges and losses.

To accelerate development of solar sector, GoI has introduced the concept of Solar parks, which will facilitate large scale grid connected solar projects at one location.
